Sieve in Expansion

چکیده

This report presents recent works extending sieve methods, from their classical setting, to new situations characterized by the targeting of sets with exponential growth, arising often from discrete groups like SLm(Z) or sufficiently big subgroups. A recent lecture of Sarnak [54] mentions some of the original motivation (related to the Markov equation and closed geodesics on the modular surface). The first general results concerning these sieve problems appeared around 2005 in preprint form, and Bourgain, Gamburd and Sarnak have written a basic paper presenting its particular features [4]. Other applications, with a very different geometric flavor, also appeared independently around that time, first (somewhat implicitly) in some works of Rivin [52].

Expansion and Improvement of Sieve and Application in Goldbach’s Problem

The modern sieve method began from Brun’s fundamental work in 1915. This remained the dominant work until 1941 when Ju. V. Linnik expanded on the sieve method. In 1947, A. Selberg advanced the sieve method by using his upper bound sieve. His sieve weights, are fundamentally different from Brun’s thus he brought a structural change into the sieve method. The linear sieve was developed by Rosser ...

Affine Sieve and Expanders

This note is based on my talk in the hot topics workshop at MSRI. My goals are to (1) Describe affine sieve: its most general setting and the fundamental theorem in the subject. (2) Convey the main ideas behind the proof of the fundamental theorem of affine sieve and its connection with expansion in linear groups. (3) Give a survey of some of the results on the expansion in linear groups and br...

Consistency and Asymptotic Normality of Sieve Estimators Under Weak and Verifiable Conditions

This paper considers sieve estimation of semi-nonparametric (SNP) models with an unknown density function as non-Euclidean parameter, next to a finite-dimensional parameter vector. The density function involved is modeled via an infinite series expansion, so that the actual parameter space is infinite-dimensional. It will be shown that under weak and verifiable conditions the sieve estimators o...

Properties of the Sieve Bootstrap for Fractionally Integrated and Non-Invertible Processes

In this paper we will investigate the consequences of applying the sieve bootstrap under regularity conditions that are sufficiently general to encompass both fractionally integrated and non-invertible processes. The sieve bootstrap is obtained by approximating the data generating process by an autoregression whose order h increases with the sample size T . The sieve bootstrap may be particular...

Molecular Sieve Zeolite Technology — the First Twenty-five Years

In twenty—five years molecular sieve zeolites have substantially impacted adsorption and catalytic process technology throughout the chemical process industries; provided timely solutions to energy and environmental problems; and grown to over a hundred million dollar industry worldwide. The evolution in zeolite materials with improved or novel properties has strongly influenced the expansion o...
